LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing arrested Dr. Umer Adil, a YouTuber and orthopedic surgeon, on Tuesday for making defamatory comments about female news anchors, including Ghareeda Farouqi.
Farouqi had filed a complaint against Adil, leading to his arrest and investigation. Adil had made disparaging remarks about female anchors on social media, sparking widespread condemnation. He allegedly suggested that female anchors are mere decorative objects on television and lack substance.
Many, including journalists and social media users, criticized Adil’s comments. Several female anchors, including Dr. Syeda Sadaf, Kiran Naz, and Absa Komal, spoke out against Adil’s statements, calling for a boycott and stricter penalties.
Following his arrest, Farouqi expressed gratitude to law enforcement and hoped for justice, emphasizing the need for comprehensive protection for women in Pakistan.
Adil, a lecturer at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, has been placed under investigation, with a formal case registered against him.
