The general elections 2024 have entered an interesting phase in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Jamaat-e-Islami have fielded 15 women against male candidates.
PPP has nominated 10 women, while Jamaat-e-Islami has put forward five women candidates for general seats. The PPP has issued tickets to women candidates for six provincial seats and four national seats.
Most of these female candidates are trying their luck for the first time in the general elections.
Dr. Sveera Parkash, the first Hindu woman nominated by PPP, is contesting for a seat in the provincial assembly from KP-25.
On the other hand, Jamaat-e-Islami has issued tickets to women candidates for five seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
However, from the JI side, no woman candidate has been nominated for any seat in the National Assembly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It is encouraging that for the first time in KP, political parties have issued tickets to a significant number of women, which will undoubtedly provide more opportunities for women to actively participate in practical politics.
