LAHORE

PROVINCIAL Minister for Women Development Hameeda Waheed-ud-Din and Minister for Minority Affairs Khalil Tahir Sindhu have said that violence against women bill will soon be presented in the Punjab Assembly.

They said this while addressing a conference on ‘Violence against women and eradication of child marriage’ held under the aegis of Aurat Foundation at a local hotel on Monday. Justice (R) Nasira Javed Iqbal, Dr Masood-ur-Rehman, Mehnaz Rafi, Shahida Naseem, Mumtaz Mughal and others addressed the function and highlighted the importance of role of government and society in eradicating violence against women.

Provincial ministers said women were important members of society and in view of importance of their role the government was making legislation for their protection. They said various organisations in Punjab were playing positive role for women rights.

They said education was necessary for changing the mindset of society. They said the government had introduced Protection of Women Rights Bill 2012 and Women Package 2014 and its monitoring was continued for ensuring implementation. (Courtesy By thenews.com.pk)
