The Women Media Center (WMC) strongly condemns the horrific incident of domestic violence inflicted upon senior journalist Jasmeen Manzoor by her former husband. The images shared on social media, showing visible bruises and injuries, are not only deeply disturbing but also a stark reminder of the ongoing dangers faced by women even those with a public voice and standing in society.

This incident once again brings to light the alarming prevalence of domestic abuse in our communities, and how women, regardless of their professional achievements or social stature, remain vulnerable to such heinous acts.

Since its establishment in 2005, Women Media Center has been at the forefront of advocating for gender equality and empowering women journalists across Pakistan. Our mission is rooted in the belief that women deserve safe spaces at home, at work, and in society at large. This act of violence against a respected media professional like Jasmeen Manzoor reflects the urgency of reinforcing protection mechanisms and societal awareness on the issue of domestic violence.

We stand in full solidarity with Jasmeen and all women who have faced or continue to face abuse. WMC reaffirms its commitment to supporting survivors, raising awareness, and promoting a media environment where women’s rights are protected and their voices are amplified.

We also call on relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served and such perpetrators are held accountable. It is imperative that we work collectively; civil society, media, and government to build a culture of zero tolerance for violence against women.
