In the same week as the presentation of the Protection of Journalists Bill in the National Assembly some unidentified men brutally assaulted Journalist and blogger Asad Toor at his home in Islamabad yesterday.

As per reports the attackers broke into Toor’s house in Sector F-10 late on Tuesday night and beat him up brutally.

Following the assault the injured journalist was moved to a private hospital, where his condition was stated to be stable and out of danger.

Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry took notice of the incident and ordered the Islamabad police chief to probe the matter.

Toor who is vocal critique of establishment and government was accused of defaming the military last year and also faced a court case in this regard. The FIR registered against MR Toor stated that he was allegedly involved in propaganda against Pakistan and its institutions on social media.

However, the charges were dropped by the Lahore High Court after the FIA police failed to proved any evidence to support the charges filed against Mr Toor.
