The Women Media Center, Pakistan condemned the reported attack by protesters against Geo and Jang group and views it as a direct threat to freedom of speech and reporting.

“Targeted attacks on journalists, media crews, and news organizations covering the national and international issues show a complete disregard for their critical role in documenting issues of public interest and are an unacceptable attempt to intimidate them.”

The issue they were protesting about was a misunderstanding and Mr. Irshad Bhatti in this regard has already apologized for his statements and had also issued a clarification in another program.

Women Media Center, Pakistan urged the government and authorities in Pakistan to provide safety to targeted media outlet and ensure the safety of their employees as they carrying out their professional responsibilities in this hostile environment is nearly impossible.
