Press Release

ISLAMABAD (Staff Reporter): “Women should not be stigmatized as weaker gender, strength of women is the real strength of men” said Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and former interior minister Rehman Malik while addressing a Five-Day Electronic Media Training Workshop arranged by Women Media Center (WMC). He said that the women in all professions in Pakistan should be given equal share and protection at workplace and legislation without discrimination is important in this regard.
He announced to table a bill in the Senate for enhancement of the female share across all professions and called for suggestions on this from the students present at the workshop. While stating that there is less 5% share of the women in professional fields, the Senator said that the workshops like this can help produce learned journalists. He said while it is a proven fact that females face difficulties and harassment at workplaces, women should make it their strength, not weakness by standing against the social and professional discrimination.
PTI MNA Kanwal Shauzab also spoke on the occasion and assured the participants of full governmental support regarding any step towards giving more share to women in every profession. She said that the ruling Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf believes in the emancipation of women and training workshops for female students are an important step in this direction. On the enactment proposed by Senator Rehman Malik, she expressed the commitment of treasury benches in both the houses to support any such legislation.
Training was attended by over 50 female students from different universities in the capital. The workshop included a visit to the Parliament House as well as training on different aspects of electronic media by professional trainers.
