5 #transgenders to contest elections this year

Out of a total of 17 candidates 5 transgenders are contesting in 2018’s general elections. Two of them have been given tickets from PTI-Gulalai while 3 are running as independent candidates.

12 out of 17 candidates have withdrawn their candidacy, citing a lack of funds.

Nadim Kashish a transgender activist and the most prominent transgender candidate is contesting from NA-153 (Islamabad), the constituency from which former prime minister Shahid Khaaqan Abbasi is also contesting.

Other candidates are contesting from the following constituencies; Nayab Ali from NA-142 (Okara), Lubna Naal from PP-26 (Jehlum), Resham Zahid from NA-105 (Gujrat) and Maria from PK-31 (Mansehra).

Nayab Ali and Lubna Naal have been given tickets from PTI-Gulalai making her popular among transgenders.
