On  behalf  of  Women  Media  Center  (WMC)  Pakistan,  24  female  media  students  were  given  the  opportunity to attend the Assembly session in Quetta on November 10, 2015. Abdul Malik Baloch, the  Chief Minister (CM) of Balochistan, headed the session and spoke about  various  important  issues. He  commenced his speech by thanking Women Media Center (WMC) Pakistan for its efforts in organizing a  workshop on electronic media training in Quetta and giving participants an opportunity to attend the  assembly session. He was proud of the fact that so many young and brave female media students were  coming forward to enter journalism which is one of the most dangerous professions in Pakistan. He also  appreciated WMC for coming to Balochistan to provide training to the students of Balochistan University  and BUITEMS  in order to work towards their better future. Moreover, Jan Mohammed Buledi, Media  Advisor of Balochistan, highlighted the role of Women Media Center (WMC) in fulfilling the request of  the participants to attend the Assembly session. The session was taken over by Abdul Samad Khan Achakzai, a Pashtun nationalist and political leader of  Quetta. He spoke about the target killings that occurred just two days prior to the assembly session. Mr  Achak zai requested the Chief Minister (CM) to visit the injured people in the hospitals and ask them  about their struggles and emphasized on the magnitude of the problem of target killings in Balochistan.  “People cannot walk on the streets or sit in hotels at night. Where ever they go, they carry with them a  threat to their lives,” he said. “Since we have failed as a government, we should give resignations and let  the people function on their own.” Mr  Baloch spoke  to  the  assembly  with reference  to  the  inequity  in  the  distribution  of  Balochistan’s  resources.  He  said  that  Balochistan  is  the  main  producer  of  the  resources,  yet  it  suffers  from  load  shedding and other fuel crisis. After the completion of his speech, the students raised their concerns to  him. One participant requested Mr. Baloch to provide their universities with technical facilities in order  to enable them to gain more exposure. On her request, the CM agreed to talk with the management of  Balochistan University and BUITEMS. Another student appreciated the efforts by the CM and the MPA’s  of  other  political  parties with reference to the  activities  going  on  at the Assembly.  She said that the  session  was  informative  and  the  participants  came  to  know  the  process  of  policy  making.  Ghazala  Anwar,  one  of  the  participants,  questioned  the  CM  on  the  efficacy  of  the  talks  held  in  Balochistan  Assembly  and  also  asked  him  to  talk  more  about  the  wider  issues  of  Balochistan, such  as sectarian  issues,  religious  extremism,  and  ethnic  problems.  On  her  contention,  the  CM  agreed  to  raise  these  issues  on  a  larger  forum  and  include  topics  which  are  not  on  the  agenda.  Women  Media  Center,  Pakistan was applauded for the efforts and struggles it is making to empower women particularlya in  vulnerable regions like Quetta and Peshawar.
