Elections are important for every nation. It is a process through which government changes. Media plays an important role in bridging the gap between the political parties and citizens of the nation. It provides all the information related to the election to the people of the country and also let them know as how the elections are being conducted.
The year 2013 has been defined as the election year and for this reason Women Media Center has organized Seven – Day Electronic Media Course on Election Reporting. This training workshop was conducted at SPO office, Qasimabad – Hyderabad from 16th – 22nd November 2012. The participants were students and journalist who were trained with basic techniques of camera handling, scripting, editing and reporting.
Moreover, renowned guest speakers were invited to enlighten the participants with their valuable experiences and knowledge.
On the third day of the workshop the distinguished reporter of Geo Television, Hyderabad, Mr. Hamid Khan shared his knowledge and provided worthwhile information related to Election Reporting. “Female reporters should keep their safety first and then continue with their work”. He further added, the reporters should be well versed with the prior knowledge of Election, so that they plan it all out as how they are going to carry election reporting”.
On the other hand, Amar Sindhu, Writer and columnist, talked about the inequality of gender in our society. She said, “No one should be discriminated on the basis of caste, colour or creed”. While talking about women in our society she retorted, “The success rate of women and men are completely different story. Sometimes religion, tradition and societal pressures don’t let women to flourish in their respective fields”.
On the fourth day of the training workshop famous columnist and Executive Director of… Mr. Jami Chandio, gave important critical points on election reporting to the female journalist present at the workshop. He mentioned that, “ General principle of reporting is that the reporter should not include his opinion in the news. If he wants to give his opinion then he should write it in an article or in a column but not in the news”. He added more, “ The language of the news should be simple and appropriate”.
In the showcase ceremony, Imdad Ali Keerio, Director Information, Hyderabad and Ghulam Mustafa Baloch, In charge SPO Office, Hyderabad distributed Certificate among the participants.
